Shafaq News / The Chargé d'Affairs of the Ukrainian Embassy in Iraq, Alexander Porashnikov, announced on Wednesday his "hope" that the next federal government would stand with his country against Russia, while Moscow's invasion was considered similar to ISIS's occupation of Iraqi lands in mid-2014, he confirmed his country's contribution to restoring The Iraqi infrastructure, including the construction of an "important" road in Anbar.
This came in an exclusive interview with Shafaq News Agency, during his visit to Anbar Governorate, to sign a contract between the local government and a Ukrainian company, aimed at starting work to rehabilitate 40 km of the international highway.
Porashnikov said that "the Ukrainian company "Alt Koma" is working on the implementation of a road construction project in Anbar province, and this project is not the only one, but one of three projects in Iraq so far."
He added, "Last year, the Ukrainian company fulfilled the contract to build the road in the southern regions of Iraq, with a contract amounting to 100 million US dollars," noting that "this project provides an opportunity to restore the infrastructure in the province and attract high technologies and standards in construction."
And he added, "The project is designed to rebuild the Iraqi economy, and this will enable the prosperity of Iraq in general, and will enable the construction of roads throughout Iraq in the future."
The Chargé d'Affairs of the Ukrainian Embassy continued, "We are working to employ Ukrainian specialists and Iraqi citizens, and we hope that there will be other opportunities by involving Ukrainian specialists," noting that "many engineers and specialists in Ukraine are carrying weapons to defend their homes from the Russian attack, which may cause delays in some procedures." In the project, but the quality will not be affected as well as the deadline for completing the project, and I am confident that it will be completed with the support of the local government in Anbar.”
Regarding the ongoing war in his country, Porashnikov said, "Violators of international law must be brought to justice, and we look forward to the Iraqi position on our issue, and we hope that the internal Iraqi situation will improve, and that Iraq will take a clear position in support of Ukraine as soon as the new government is formed," noting that "the war launched by Russia against Ukraine is a crime against humanity committed by the Russian forces on the territory of Ukraine and is similar to the Iraqi experience in their war against (ISIS)."
