Shafaq News/ Member of the Iraqi Parliament, Firas Al-Maslmawi, confirmed on Wednesday that the Ministry of Electricity did not implement what it announced to exclude Karbala governorate from the programmed cut, and while he made an immediate request to the mentioned ministry and the Karbala Governorate Directorate, he promised a decisive stance in the coming days.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the Karbala administration agreed to exclude the governorate from the programmed cut-off, starting from last Saturday (September 3 this year) until all the forty visitors leave.
Al-Maslamawi told Shafaq News Agency, "When the Ministry of Electricity announced that it would implement the decision to exclude Karbala Governorate from the programmed cuts, given that it currently receives millions of visitors, we supported the Ministry and backed us at its hands, but after we followed up on this file directly, it was found that there is a weakness in the processing of some areas." In addition to the arrival of appeals from the Husseiniya processions, specifically on the Najaf Khan al-Nass road towards Karbala, complaining about their lack of electrical power.”
The representative of Karbala called on the Governorate Electricity Directorate to "accelerate the installation of mobile transformers to raise the amperage and voltage to be suitable for the Husseini processions."
Al-Maslamawi continued, vowing, "Karbala is witnessing continuous interruptions in light of the increasing number of visitors day after day, and if the Ministry of Electricity continues to cut power to the province, then the representatives of Karbala will have a decisive position in the coming days."
Thousands of Iraqi citizens and other nationalities began to flock to the city of Karbala since the beginning of this week, in preparation for the celebration of the fortieth visit, which will take place after nearly two weeks.
The number of visitors to Karbala, to perform the fortieth pilgrimage last year, exceeded the barrier of 17 million visitors.
Shafak News Agency tried to contact the Ministry of Electricity to find out more details on this subject, but it did not receive a response until the time of publishing this report.
