Baghdad / bright news
The Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee revealed a plan to raise electricity supply rates during the coming summer to 20 hours per day, indicating that this would be done by creating a kind of balance between the production and distribution sectors. A member of the committee, MP Dakhil Radi, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani gave special importance to the issue of electricity.”
Radi added, "Al-Sudani gave special powers to the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, in terms of contracting and spending money, especially in the production and transportation sector."
He pointed out, “A government endeavor that the coming summer season will be better than previous years in terms of processing hours.”
Radi pointed out that “most of the production plants are currently in the process of maintenance,” stressing that “the ministry is in the process of concluding new contracts; To establish new generation production stations and transmission lines.
And he talked about “a five-year plan at the ministry at the present time; In order to improve and develop the electrical plan in Iraq.
Radi believed that “achieving a balance between production, transportation and distribution is necessary; Because Iraq has areas that enjoy sufficient production, but suffer from a deficit in terms of transport lines.
Radi concluded, "Iraq has reached its production at the present time to more than 22 thousand megawatts, and is looking forward to creating a state of balance with the distribution sector, and with this balance we will reach very good levels of supply ranging from 18 to 20 hours per day and may be around the clock." without interruption in the future.
For his part, the researcher in the field of energy and electricity, Salah al-Moussawi, said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that “the number of people in Iraq next summer will increase by more than one million people from the previous season, and therefore we need additional electricity for the increase in the number of the population, in addition to address the current deficit.
Al-Moussawi added, "Iraq suffered during the past summer from a deficit in the production of electricity and its requirements, which was clearly reflected in the processing hours, which were clearly declining."
And he believed that “the current production reaches 12 thousand megawatts, and the actual need requires the production of 35 thousand megawatts, but if we activate the industry, this measure will increase the demand for electricity.”
Al-Moussawi talked about steps he described as "important to improve electric power," explaining that "treatment of transgressions does not end with ending the case of transgression, but rather by holding the perpetrator accountable in this case to prevent him from repeating his act and deter others as well."
And he stressed, “Accountability should also affect those who refrain from paying electricity bills,” warning that “90% of electricity collection is not paid.”
Al-Moussawi concluded, “The necessity of preventing electrical appliances that drain a lot of electrical energy, including water heating devices, and replacing them with those that run on oil and gas, and this is preceded by coordination with the Ministry of Oil in order to secure citizens with sufficient quantities of fuel.”
And the spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, had stated in a previous statement to (Al-Mada) that “the ministry has embarked on a plan for preparations for the summer season, and after intensive meetings and an operations room headed by the Minister of Electricity, it was decided to put two plans, the first emergency and the other strategic.”
Moussa added, "The emergency plan is moving towards keeping pace with next summer, and provides generating units that work to stabilize energy, with production rates of about 24,000 megawatts."
He pointed out, "The ministry's plan will include the distribution sector, addressing bottlenecks, installing fixed and mobile stations, developing generators, and coordinating with the concerned departments to provide plots of land for the benefit of installing stations."
Moussa talked about “a significant improvement, according to the data, that will occur in terms of processing hours during the coming summer, especially with the approval of the state’s general budget law.”
He emphasized, “The Ministry of Electricity’s second plan is a 3-year strategy; During which we intend to control operating expenses.”
Moussa continues, "This is done by completing the installation of installed units in our gas stations, which provide energy that does not need fuel."
