    Nasser Kanaani, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the naming of the "Arabian Gulf", saying that "naming the Persian Gulf for this water area is a historical, permanent and documented fact."

    The Iranian "IRNA" agency quoted Kanani as saying in response to a question about "the use of a false name for the Persian Gulf by some Iraqi institutions and officials, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani," that "the name of The Persian Gulf for this water area is a historical, permanent and documented fact that cannot be Denying it and repeating a false name does not change the truth.”

    A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry added, “The Persian Gulf is a name mentioned in ancient documents, maps, travel records and ancient texts thousands of years ago, and it will remain under this name forever.”

    Kanaani pointed out that "the historical solidarity of the countries of the region cannot be exploited to bring friendship to others," and said that "Iranian-Iraqi relations go beyond individuals and institutions and are rooted in the depth of the history and civilization of the two countries and peoples."

    A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a protest note because of the statements made by a number of Iraqi officials."
