With the continuation of government measures to prosecute the suspects in the "theft of the century" case, the support team of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission was able to carry out a qualitative operation that resulted in the arrest of four suspects, and seized large sums of money, gold jewelry and real estate documents in their possession.
A statement issued by the Integrity Commission stated that the support team of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission, after receiving accurate information and completing legal procedures by obtaining arrest warrants issued by the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Investigation Court, arrested three suspects related to the fourth suspect, the former director general of the General Authority for Taxes, who was arrested. He was arrested in another case and his confessions were taken, indicating that the accused are: the manager, his wife, and mediators in the money laundering process.
The statement indicated that the operation also resulted in the seizure of large amounts of cash in their possession, amounting to (1,272,000,000) one billion two hundred and twenty-seven million Iraqi dinars, and (556.900) five hundred and fifty-six thousand and nine hundred US dollars, in addition to holdings and “golden stocks” in a large amount.
And the statement added that among the seized documents were documents for (11) real estate, (9) of which were inside Iraq, and two outside it, both of which are of great financial value. Taking measures to control it, stressing that these funds are all obtained from trading in public office and bribes received by the former Director General of the General Tax Authority during his work in it and hidden by the accused.
