    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Thursday (April 4, 2024), informed sources revealed details of the theft of billions in the Diyala Governorate Office.
The sources said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “ the embezzlement case in the Diyala Governorate Office, which was revealed today, began in August 2023, as a result of the formation of a fake committee by 3 employees who were originally entrusted with the governorate’s accounts, as they forged the signature of an accounts manager.” The governorate and an original checkbook and withdrew approximately 7 billion dinars in an innovative, artistic way.”
She added, "The governor of Diyala, Karim Ali Agha, has taken a number of measures, but the main thief is now on the run and may have arrived in Turkey or Jordan."
Meanwhile, MP Mudar Al-Karawi explained that “ 9 billion dinars were stolen, most of them from the compensation fund for those affected by terrorist acts in the Diyala Governorate Office over the course of months now.”
He added, "It is a crime that we will not remain silent about, and we have begun procedures to urgently request the Integrity Commission to immediately investigate and reveal the identity of those whose hands extended to the money of simple people. What happened demonstrates the extent of corruption that we have repeatedly warned against and its danger to public funds. What was recently revealed calls for a comprehensive disclosure in order to put an end to it." An end to corruption and whoever provides protection and cover for it in a way that reflects the weakness of the procedures and the exacerbation of the corruption file that has devoured public funds and the rights of the martyrs and those affected,” stressing: “We will take all legal measures to ensure that all negligent parties are held accountable and the stolen money is recovered.”
