{Economic: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Agriculture revealed the reason for the high prices of some agricultural crops in the local markets.
"The prices of vegetables generally rise during this period of the year," said the ministry's spokesman, Muhammad al-Khuza'i, to the Euphrates News Agency.
He pointed out, "We are going through a seasonal transition period (from winter to spring) and production is scarce," stressing that "this crisis is not only in Iraq, but in all countries, even those that represent sources for Iraq, in addition to the climate change of countries, which led to a decrease in global production."
Al-Khuzaie reassured the citizens that "in the coming days, there will be a decrease in local production in the markets, and prices and the product will return to normal."
It is noteworthy that some agricultural crops are witnessing an increase in the local markets, including onions and cucumbers.
And the onion crisis has become global in nature due to the decrease in its production in the two most prominent exporting countries around the world, India and Pakistan, due to torrents and floods that caused great damage to the onion seasons, so production decreased amid high demand, which led to an increase in its global price.
