    In serious and rapid measures, the government of Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa al-Sudani is moving from all directions to mitigate the effects of pollution and climate change through large projects with international support that culminated in several images during the meetings of the Iraqi delegation with officials around the world on the sidelines of the climate conference in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, which was held last year. .
    The government is preparing to hold the Iraq Climate Conference in Basra Governorate next month, with wide Arab and international participation, to deliver a message to the international community about the dangers of climate change afflicting many countries.

    The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Jassim Al-Falahi, told the official agency: "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani, due to his great interest in the issue of climate change on the Iraqi environment, directed the holding of an international conference in Basra Governorate, to complement the great diplomatic and popular success he achieved in the Gulf Championship 25," pointing out, That "there are objective reasons for choosing this province."

    He continued, "Iraq is classified as one of the five most affected countries in the world in terms of climate change, and Basra in particular is the most affected and most vulnerable to the effects of changes in terms of drought, desertification, and increased pollution rates, especially those associated with the oil industry and resulting from the burning of associated gas," explaining, " The directive of the Prime Minister stipulates that this conference includes scientific competencies and international organizations and attracts all specialized cadres in order to develop a vision for a homeland that will be in the form of a message that comes out from Basra Governorate in the name of Iraq to the international community, confirming the interest of the Iraqi government in the issue of climate change, reducing harmful gas emissions and exploiting gas accompanying the protection of human life and health and the fulfillment of Iraq's international obligations in this regard.


    In turn, the advisor to the Prime Minister, Mustafa Naji, indicated in his interview with the official agency, that "the current government has given the issue of the environment a priority and included it in its government program and ministerial platform."

    He added, "The participation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani in the climate summit last year and the coordination between the relevant ministries that work as one team with the help of specialized organizations in the United Nations aims to make a difference in mitigating pollution and climate change in Iraq."


    While the Director General of the Awareness and Information Department at the Ministry of Environment, Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, confirmed to the official agency, that "the Iraq Climate Conference, which will be held in the middle of next March, will constitute a transitional stage for the executive authorities and all sectors of the state," noting that "the current government has taken the right and great approach in issue of environmental reform.

    He added, "There are many large projects that the state and the government have directed to in developing solutions for the problems resulting from climate change," noting that "one of the efforts that the teams formed in the Prime Minister's office and the media and awareness teams are working on is enlightening society and cultural elites with the required roles, and what they need to do." The government is doing it in the process of marketing these concepts to Iraqi society.

    And he continued, "This does not only require the state to establish mitigation and adaptation projects, but public opinion, citizens, state institutions, and all actors in this country must have roles and culture in the matter of environmental concepts and climate changes because it is a collective work that does not recede on ministries only, but there are duties and roles for each." those in the community," expressing his hope that "infrastructure projects will be developed in the coming years to mitigate the problems caused by climate change."

    And he stated, "There is a change in the interface of projects by increasing green spaces and benefiting from natural gas and associated gas after converting them from gases that burn and pollute the environment into an energy source and also to economic feasibility," explaining, "The current government has put Iraq in front of a major qualitative shift, and the citizen touches The product of the government's work in the environmental field.


    For his part, the head of the Center for the Union of Strategic Experts, Sabah Zangana, told the official agency, "There are countries that may have advanced to Iraq and joined the Paris Climate Agreement for the year 2015, but we are witnessing today how Iraq is establishing the organization of the conference in Basra, as if it is telling the rest of the countries that it is a race in achieving This mission is about climate and its risks."
    He stated, "We want to consider the issue of what will lead to climatic problems," pointing out, "All that is happening is due to interconnected reasons, some of which are environmental, including geological and climatic reasons, and therefore there is an interdependence between all these concepts," pointing out that "Iraq wants to create an environment and reveal For the world with its ability to overcome difficulties, and also for Iraq to have a hand in the issue of addressing global climate change and also have a role in taking compensation as one of those affected by climate change.
