The oil expert, Hamza Al-Jawahiri, explained that there is no commitment on Iraq with the Turkish side regarding oil exports, indicating that the agreement to export oil through Kurdistan belongs to the region and its cancellation is something that does not bear any delay.
Al-Jawahiri said in a press interview seen by “Takadum” that “Iraq did not sign any agreement to export oil with the Turkish side, but the one who did this matter is the Kurdistan region,” noting that “the issue of canceling the agreement is very necessary and does not bear any delay.”
The oil expert explained, "Turkey does not have the right to impose an agreement on the Iraqi government to which it was not a party, and the Kurdistan region cannot represent all of Iraq in such agreements," pointing out that "oil sovereignty is in the hands of Iraq and it has the right to cancel any agreement made by the parties." other.”
Al-Jawahiri added, “The Federal Court issued three special rulings, in which the Kurdistan region deviates from concluding any oil agreement, in addition to the fact that Iraq seeks to cancel many oil agreements, whether with Turkey or with other international oil companies, which harm the Iraqi economy.”
And he continued, “The oil partnership contracts must end immediately, as they contradict the Iraqi constitution, and they can be converted into service contracts, and the investor takes his wages in exchange for oil production and field development,” noting that “Iraq has the right to recover and own oil facilities, the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan region.” As well as foreign countries, they are all bound by this matter.”
Regarding Iraq’s losses from stopping oil exports through the Ceyhan port, Al-Jawahiry explained, “There are no current losses resulting from the stoppage, because it can be compensated for through exports from the south, but its long continuation may lead to losses, and Iraq must find alternatives to exporting oil, especially if it is canceled.” The oil pipeline agreement to Turkey.
