    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Sunday (July 23, 2023), the Central Bank of Iraq announced that it “will compensate citizens and companies who buy dollars at the unofficial rate.”
This came during a meeting between Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Bank Governor Ali Al-Alaq.
A statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, received by “Baghdad Today,” indicated that the meeting “confirmed the continuation of the measures that the Central Bank will take, regarding compensation for citizens and companies who buy dollars at the unofficial price, through the Central Bank deducting the financial difference from banks and exchange companies that sold the dollar at more than its price specified in the bank, after the purchase from those companies is proven.”
While the Governor of the Central Bank revealed, during the meeting, “the bank’s intention to resume selling cash dollars through licensed banks in Nineveh Governorate,” after years of stopping them due to financial transfers, some of which finance terrorism after the occupation of the governorates by ISIS terrorist gangs in 2014.
The Central Bank confirmed today that it will continue to meet the legitimate requests for the dollar from the official outlets licensed by it and at the official rate set for the beneficiary, which amounts to (1320) dinars to the dollar.
He also called on the bank to report a case of paying a price higher than the official rate set above, and the bank account or exchange company with this bank shall compensate the person affected by the price difference.
