    Today, Wednesday (May 29, 2024), Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed the acceleration of the formation of a supreme committee to follow up on the water agreement with Turkey.
    The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “Al-Sudani chaired the second meeting to follow up on the agreements and memorandums with Turkey, which were concluded during the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq,” noting that “the meeting witnessed a review of the special procedures.” “Implementing the agreements and memorandums of understanding concluded between the two sides, amounting to 24 memorandums.”
    Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, “the necessity of continuing communication with the Turkish side to proceed with implementation steps in parallel,” stressing “the necessity for each ministry concerned with the memorandums of understanding to develop a clear work plan under its direct supervision in order to accelerate implementation.”
    The Prime Minister also directed, according to the statement, “to accelerate the formation of the special committee to implement the framework agreement for cooperation in the field of water between Iraq and Turkey, and to emphasize the preparation of projects related to water, which will be implemented jointly, and to focus on strategic projects that are in the interest of Iraq in the long term, in order to achieve The desired impact on the agricultural and water situation in Iraq.”
    The statement explained, "The meeting witnessed a review of the procedures related to the signed memorandums of understanding, and the importance of forming joint committees between the relevant ministries, to follow up on the implementation of cooperation procedures in other vital fields and sectors, in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and achieving the interests of their peoples."
