Al-Muthanna: The governorate’s allocations are small compared to its projects

appealed to the Muthanna Governorate Council to the Parliamentary Finance Committee to increase the governorate’s allocations because they are not proportional to its population density, pointing out that last year’s budget allocations have not yet been released by the Ministry of Finance and work is still being done on food security projects.
The head of the council, Ahmed Mohsen Drioul, told “Al-Sabah”: After the return of the governorate councils and the completion of their constitutional circles, trust was restored between the street and the governorate councils, stressing the governorate’s orientation towards developing the industrial and economic sector primarily, as the governorate’s economic vision is necessary and very important.
He added that moving the governorate from one reality to another is important, especially since it possesses resources, areas, and minerals that make it one of the best governorates in the country, noting that the financial allocations so far are limited to existing projects, which are food security projects, as special allocations have not been released yet, and today we are in the middle of the year.
Drioul pointed out that the operating budget of Muthanna Governorate amounted to 303 billion dinars in the 2023 budget, in addition to the Reconstruction Fund for the Poorest Areas, of which the governorate’s share amounted to 150 billion dinars.
He expressed his hope to double the amounts allocated to the governorate, especially since some projects will slow down due to financial releases, pointing out that they are not commensurate with the population density.
Drioul added that the governorate needs additional allocations because its areas are vast and the projects required by administrative units far from the city center require very large sums, and the budget allocated to Al-Muthanna is not sufficient for these projects, stressing that he approached the Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee about adding some allocations
to the governorate in the current year’s budget.
