Today, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Abbas Jabr Al-Alaywi, at the Baghdad Palace.
During the meeting, they discussed the agricultural situation in the country and the obstacles it faces, especially in the irrigation and watering process, and the areas allocated for cultivating the wheat crop.
It was also emphasized the need to use sprinkler and drip irrigation devices, to deal with waste in water use, and to keep pace with modern methods of agriculture in a way that achieves self-sufficiency in the production of crops that are included in the daily food basket of citizens.
The optimal use of groundwater and the prevention of abuse of water quotas, especially by owners of fish ponds that are not officially licensed, and their impact on the agricultural plan, were also discussed.
