What is behind the visit of the Iraqi army leaders to the “Ain al-Assad” base?

A high-ranking Iraqi military team has arrived at the "Ain al-Assad" air base, west of Anbar province, which includes hundreds of US forces operating within the international coalition.
The visit coincides with the debate in Iraq about the new US moves and the fact that the number of its forces is increasing, which was denied by US military officials, stressing that it is a process of replacing forces.
The military delegation includes the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Abd al-Amir Yarallah, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, and a number of security and military leaders in the Ministry of Defense and Interior, according to a statement carried by the official Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement did not reveal the details of the visit to the most prominent base on the map of the military presence of US forces and the international coalition in Iraq, but a prominent military source in Baghdad told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “the visit includes the Iraqi military part of the base only.”
The source, who requested anonymity, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “Ain Al-Assad base is divided into two parts; The first includes the Iraqi army forces (the Badia and Al-Jazeera Operations Command) and the second, which is the largest, includes forces of the international coalition led by Washington.
He said that the American part does not allow any Iraqi military to enter it without prior approval, and the Iraqi leaders' access to it may be linked to the outcomes of the visit of Iraqi Defense Minister Thabet al-Abbasi to Washington early this month, at the head of an official Iraqi delegation.
Last week, the security adviser to the Iraqi government, Khaled al-Yaqoubi, denied the existence of a build-up of US forces inside Iraqi territory, stressing that there is a replacement for the US forces present in Syria.
Al-Yaqoubi said in a press interview that the Iraqi leadership focused in its negotiations with the American side on preserving Iraq's sovereignty, pointing out that there were no secret paragraphs or meetings in those negotiations.
On the other hand, the source pointed out that “the Iraqi army has been mobilized for days to secure the Arbaeen visit ceremonies, as millions flock to Karbala and Najaf, to commemorate the occasion,” pointing to the intensification of the security and air deployment in the desert areas between Anbar and Karbala, to prevent any infiltration operations to launch “operations.” Terrorism” targeting visitors.
Security analyst Kazem al-Haj told The New Arab that "Iraq is witnessing a state of security stability, but this does not mean complacency."
The analyst added, "Revitalizing the intelligence effort is the most important thing now to eliminate the remaining cells of the terrorist organization ISIS."
Finally, the Iraqi security intensified the intelligence work by following up and identifying the movements of the organization's elements throughout the Iraqi governorates, as part of a new security strategy that was adopted in parallel with the field movement.
The provinces of Kirkuk, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Anbar and Nineveh are among the most violent provinces in the country.
