The leadership of the Iranian “Toilers of Kurdistan” group revealed on Thursday that it had withdrawn its forces stationed on the borders of the Kurdistan Region bordering Iran, stressing that this came in coordination with Erbil.
Amjadi Hussein, one of the group’s leaders, said, “Iran aims to occupy the territory of the Kurdistan Region using pretexts such as attacking the Kurdish parties opposed to Tehran, and as part of our efforts to avoid the incursion of Iranian forces, our forces were withdrawn from the border into the territory of the region.”
He stressed that “Iran has assembled large forces on the border, equipped with heavy weapons and drones.”
Regarding the changes taking place on the ground, Hussein pointed out that “the Iraqi border guard forces are scheduled to replace the withdrawing forces, but so far these forces have not reached those areas.”
The Deputy Chief of Operations Affairs in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Brigadier General Abbas Nilforshan, had threatened on September 9, in a statement to the Iranian Tasnim Agency, that “September 19 is the end of the deadline set for Iraq to disarm armed groups, and if They did not fulfill their obligations. We will return to the previous situation and we are forced to defend the interests of the Iranian people.”
He added, “We expect the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to show brotherhood.” Allowing terrorists to be present in the region, which has become a source of operations against Iran, is not consistent with the logic of brotherhood and good neighbourliness.”
In previous times, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard bombed sites in the Kurdistan Region and said at the time that it targeted Kurdish armed groups that threatened Iranian security.
