The Minister of Environment, Engineer Nizar Amidi, met with
Deputy Country Director of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq (UNDP), Dr. Ghammar Deeb, Director of the Environment, Climate and Energy Department at UNDP, Dr. Mamunur Rashid, and the national expert at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Obaidi, in the presence of the Technical Undersecretary, Dr. Jassim Al-Falahi and Dr. Nazir Abboud Faza, Advisor to the Ministry and Director of the Climate Change Directorate, Yousef Moayed, to discuss aspects of cooperation in light of the existing partnership, and the diversity of areas of cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Minister of Environment stated during the meeting that existing and future aspects of joint work were discussed, and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the field of environmental protection, and to support mechanisms for accessing international financing, to confront the effects of climate change and other environmental issues, noting the major role of UNDP, which is a strategic partner in supporting The Ministry's efforts to confront the challenges of the impact of climate change.
Amedi continued that the focus on large regional and international cooperation projects on the ground was discussed, and the preparations of the Iraqi delegation that will participate in the 28th COP Conference of States Parties and the unified vision that will be presented during the conference, in addition to what has been implemented from the National Contributions Document (NDC), which was submitted to the Secretariat of the Framework Convention for Changes. Climate change, which includes reducing emissions and gradually shifting to energies based on nature-based solutions and alternative energies that are environmentally friendly, and achieving sustainable development goals.
