The Ministry of Health reported that hemorrhagic fever infections are increasing daily by three human cases, while a veterinary expert stressed the necessity of applying quarantine to the outbreak areas and examining those present in the place using PCR, to prevent the spread of the disease and contain the number of infections.
According to the latest statistics received from the National Center for Epidemic Diseases, and announced by the Ministry at the end of last August, the total number of infections reached 505, including 64 deaths, topped by Dhi Qar Governorate with 125 cases, including 12 deaths.
Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry, Riyad Abdel Amir, said in press statements: 12 new cases of hemorrhagic fever were recorded among citizens in Baghdad and the governorates during the past week, revealing that the Ministry’s data indicates that two to three cases of the disease are recorded daily.
He placed responsibility for measures to combat ticks, which are the main cause of the disease and live in livestock pens or on their skin, on the Ministry of Agriculture, calling for taking the necessary preventive measures in this regard, pointing out in the same context that a joint committee had been formed between the Ministries of Health and Agriculture to eliminate the insect. .
The Ministry of Health had warned last year of the rise in cases of the disease, which had spread widely in all regions of the country, and stressed the need for veterinary staff to carry out intensive spraying campaigns for livestock to eliminate the tick, the main cause of the disease. For his part, the expert in epidemiological affairs, Dr. Thamer Razzaq Al-Rubaie, in an interview with Al-Sabah, indicated the necessity of applying quarantine to the area where infections appear and conducting a PCR examination for all those present in the place where infection appears to determine the areas of the outbreak, with the aim of preventing the spread of the disease.
