Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Water Resources announced the restart of 25 projects that had been suspended for 10 years in accordance with the government program, while indicating the withdrawal of the Eastern Al-Jazeera Irrigation Project from two lagging companies.
The ministry’s spokesman, Khaled Shamal, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the ministry is moving towards implementing all the stalled and delayed projects, after the Ministry of Finance released cash, as the government program includes 32 projects, including 27 projects affiliated with the Reclamation Authority.” ".
He explained that "the Reclamation Authority has 27 projects, including 25 that have been stalled for 10 years, distributed in the governorates of Kirkuk, Najaf Al-Ashraf, Babil, Nasiriyah, Basra, Diwaniyah, Samawah and Anbar," stressing that "the government is serious about restoring these stalled projects, on which large sums of money were spent."
He pointed out that "there is a project (Eastern Al-Jazeera Irrigation), which is one of the stalled projects. Its estimated cost was more than 60 billion dinars. It was referred to two Kurdish and Turkish companies since 2010, but they delayed working, and all the ministers who assumed the position of ministry were unable to take action against these two companies." Both companies for many reasons.
He continued by saying: “The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, took a decisive and bold decision in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and to withdraw work from these two companies. Three government companies were invited, and within 15 days the work will be transferred to one of those companies, which is either (Iraq, Al-Rafidain, or Al-Faw).”
He stressed that "the eastern Al-Jazeera irrigation project is very important and will support the state budget," pointing out that "it depends on joint work regarding irrigation, part of which comes from rainwater, and the other part comes directly from the Mosul Dam."
