The Directorate of Tribal Affairs within the Ministry of Interior announced, on Monday, the success of the first social experiment to contain electronic blackmail in Iraq.

The Director of Tribal Affairs in Diyala, Brigadier General Ali Mahmoud Al-Rubaie, said in an interview with “Al-Ma’louma”: “Electronic blackmail is a new crime that has emerged remarkably in Diyala society 4 years ago and has begun to cause concern, especially with weak souls deliberately harming the reputation of clans and families and creating disputes, in addition to hacking pages.” To achieve goals, including financial ones, by blackmailing the victims, who are from several categories.”
He added, "The tribal elites in Diyala realized the danger of this criminal approach to civil peace and its repercussions in creating strife, so they rushed to agree on a road map of 6 important points, the most prominent of which is defining tribal sanctions and supporting the security forces in taking their role in tracking them down and not being lenient with them."
He pointed out that "Diyala is the first governorate in Iraq that has succeeded, through social experience, in containing electronic blackmail, especially with the presence of awareness seminars to warn of the danger of these acts and their social and legal penalties."
Diyala has recorded many incidents of electronic blackmail in recent years, most of whose victims are young men and teenagers. Ended 25 February
