Independent MP Kazem Al-Fayad announced today, Saturday (December 30, 2023), that there are no signs of resolving the crisis in choosing the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Al-Fayad said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The differences between the blocs and parties regarding the selection of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives are still continuing, and there are no signs of resolving this crisis in the near term, and we do not believe that this file will be resolved at the beginning of the new legislative term."
He stated, “The influential blocs and parties are accustomed to resolving such files through deals and consensuses, and so far there are none of those deals and consensuses, and all of this is due to the influence struggle between those parties, and that is why we believe that the selection of the new speaker of parliament will take a long time.”
On November 14, 2023, the Federal Court issued a final and binding decision to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rekan Al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a “misrepresentation” of the resignation of Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi, which it considered a “perjury of oath.”
