The House of Representatives is awaiting the decision of the Federal Court regarding a number of appeals submitted by the Taqadum parliamentary bloc to be able to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Deputy Chairman of the Strategic Planning and Government Program Follow-up Committee, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, said, “The House of Representatives is awaiting the decision of the Federal Court regarding the appeals submitted to it, noting that there are a number of appeals submitted by members of the House of Representatives that challenge the validity of the membership and nomination of Representative Shaalan Al-Karim, in addition to that the bloc “I appealed the origin of the proceedings.”
He pointed out that "the appeals differ from the first in preventing Representative Shaalan Al-Karim from reaching the House of Representatives. Therefore, if these appeals are valid and the court is convinced that the representative glorifies the previous regime, then it will affect his membership in the House of Representatives."
Al-Baldawi pointed out that "the second part of the appeal calls into question the validity of the session, which prompted a bloc to file an appeal against the procedures. If the court takes them into consideration, the entire session will be reconsidered and the door to nominations will be opened."
He explained: "If the court rejects the appeal, we will go to the people who submitted nominations during the session so that the voting and election process continues, confirming the start of a second round for the candidates who received votes and participated in the first session."
Al-Baldawi added, "The court's decision is what will push for a breakthrough in the political scene and speed up the process of choosing the presidency of the House of Representatives, whether the decision is to invalidate the session if the appeal is not accepted and thus continue the procedures until the election of a speaker for the Iraqi House of Representatives."
Member of the House of Representatives, Jassem Al-Alawi, says, “The work of the House of Representatives continues on the first reading, voting, and completion of the laws during these days, while the issue of electing the Speaker of Parliament remains. The decision of the Federal Court is awaited during this week. The decision will be made and we will proceed with the election of the President after the political agreement.”
According to the decision of the Federal Court, the interim presidency of Parliament will manage the current sessions to pass the crowded projects on the committee table, but the agenda is still devoid of major projects, at a time when the Council voted on some paragraphs of the draft legal aid law.
Parliamentary Legal Member Omid Muhammad says, “Legal aid means opening many centers for each governorate. There is a higher body in which membership from a group of ministries and the Bar Association participates, and opening it is not limited to legal advice only, but every citizen or any group covered by the law has the right to power of attorney.” Lawyer on state bail.”
