The position of Speaker of Parliament awaits decision

Specialists in political affairs believe that keeping the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives vacant for a longer period is not in anyone’s interest, especially since the current government program needs the support of the legislative authority, and while the position is still being decided and a person named to fill its place, analyzes indicate the necessity of deciding two matters before that: They are, respectively, “consensus” as a political norm and “parliamentary entitlement.”
Political affairs analyst Omar Al-Nasser said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “it is not in the interest of the government coalition for the House of Representatives to remain without a president, because today they are in a race against time in order to achieve the greatest possible amount in supporting the government’s approach to the Sudanese, especially since the street is waiting for laws.” And legislation that fully affects the life of society and the state.”
He added, "The street still believes that the current parliamentary session was unable to legislate more than 40 laws - as observers believe - which is less than hopes." He pointed out that "the heat of the movements in the political arena began to intensify early before the onset of summer, and it seems that the head of the State of Law coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, feels the necessity of accelerating the resolution of this issue, and it should be through the gate of commitment to implementing the constitution, as there must be an actual implementation of the provisions of the bylaws of the Council." Representatives and adherence to the decisions of the Federal Court and not exceeding them, and most importantly, adhere to real standards for assuming this position, the most important of which are (integrity, courage, professionalism, and giving priority to the Iraqi voice as a comprehensive title for all), which will serve as the supportive pillar on which the state relies.”
For his part, the researcher in political affairs, Ali Najdia, stated in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the political process in Iraq is built on the basis of political consensus, and therefore a new speaker of parliament cannot be chosen except by political consensus within the (Sunni House) first, and then With the rest of the other political forces.”
He pointed out that “(the Sunni House) is witnessing a struggle over who represents the Sunni majority within the dome of Parliament, because political custom says that the share of the presidency of Parliament is the entitlement of the largest (Sunni) bloc in Parliament,” pointing to “the (Taqaddum Party)’s adherence that the position of Speaker of Parliament It is what he deserves, and therefore the party’s leader, Muhammad al-Halbousi, tried, through extensive tours during which he met with the leaders of the political blocs and members of the (State Administration Coalition), to confirm this entitlement.”
He added, "On the other hand, the other Sunni blocs represented by (Azm, Decisiveness and Al-Sayyada) are trying to attract the largest possible number of representatives to form the Sunni majority."
Najdia believed that “the largest (Sunni) bloc currently is the (Taqaddum Party), and it will seek to pass its candidate after amending the internal regulations to allow it to replace its candidate (Shalan Al-Karim).”
