The Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee revealed its effort to legislate the capital law.
Committee member Nihal Al-Shammari said, in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by Mawazine News, that “the law will end the overlapping of powers between the Municipality and the Baghdad Governorate and its Council,” noting that “the Baghdad Governorate Council always objects to the budget allocated to the capital and confirms that it is for projects that belong to the outskirts of Baghdad that be subordinate to it.”
She added, “The draft law needs political consensus, and in the event of its absence, it could be obstructed during the current session,” explaining that “the new law will make selecting the Mayor of Baghdad one of the tasks of the Provincial Council, who must have at least a bachelor’s degree.” Estimated, and must be 40 years or older.
