The Minister of Construction and Housing, Benkin Rekani, revealed a comprehensive plan to relieve traffic congestion in Baghdad, which includes constructing new roads and bridges and improving the transportation infrastructure.
Rikani explained that a bridge has not been built in Baghdad since the 1990s, and currently we have a plan focused on relieving bottlenecks on internal roads in Baghdad, as the ministry bears responsibility for its implementation. Pointing out that the Ministry works as an executive arm of the government, and addresses any defect in infrastructure projects, including projects to relieve traffic congestion.
He stressed that projects to relieve traffic congestion are being implemented according to a clear strategy and an in-depth study of the traffic congestion points in the city of Baghdad, pointing out that these points are not the only cause of congestion, but they are the main cause.
He explained that the ministry relies on modern technologies, such as satellite surveillance and ground-based smart cameras, to monitor traffic at all major intersections in Baghdad. He pointed out that the Ministry has developed a comprehensive plan to relieve traffic congestion, which includes establishing a circular line around Baghdad, removing bottlenecks at some intersections, and constructing new axes and new bridges.
The Minister of Construction stated that his ministry is also working to improve highways, such as the Muhammad al-Qasim Canal and Salah al-Din Road, which suffer from major congestion.
He pointed out that these roads should be highways to move traffic in both directions, but they have become major congestion points.
He stressed that most of the green spaces in Baghdad have turned into residential complexes, and this trend is wrong, as it has caused an increase in the population density of Baghdad and the elimination of green and recreational areas, indicating that the government will buy residential homes and be forced to demolish them in order to build schools, because there are no spaces to build basic services. .
He pointed out that real estate prices began to decline after the announcement of the establishment of new cities in Baghdad.
