Tax announces recommendations that limit extortion and address the problem of similarity of names

, today, Wednesday, the General Tax Authority announced new recommendations that change the tax reality, limit the process of extortion, and address the problem of similarity of names.

The head of the General Authority for Taxes, Ali Waad Allawi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The tax reform conference was recently held under the auspices of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani,” noting that “the conference focused on tax reform and the interest and emphasis of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance on tax reform.”
He pointed out that "many recommendations that came out of the conference were studied and submitted to the Council of Ministers for discussion, in addition to the revision by the Legal Department of the General Secretariat and they were voted on in the session of 2/5/2024."
He explained, "The results of these recommendations will be tangible and will change the tax reality by 80 percent," noting that "the recommendations included fixing the tax value of the land, in addition to the taxpayer being able to know the tax rate through the area of ​​his land in the rate fixed in the tax reform, and this will limit From the extortion process, in addition to addressing the problem of similarity of names within a mechanism established by the Authority, and supporting Iraqi companies and the industrial sector through the approval of the Council of Ministers to extinguish all invoices and fines owed by the companies, provided that the original tax is paid and the companies are given a period of four months to review the General Authority for Taxes.
Allawi stressed, “The Prime Minister pays attention to local industry, laboratories, and factories and supporting them, and he issued one of the recommendations regarding issuing no-objection letters from the General Authority for Taxes to companies and individuals belonging to this segment in the industrial sector, even if they have not paid the tax, and giving them a period of 90 days to complete the process.” Payment and completion of the tender process and informing the Authority whether the tender was completed or not,” noting that “this decision is issued for the first time in the Authority’s history.”
He continued, "Among the recommendations is that every citizen or employee has the right to import a vehicle, as previously a file was opened at the General Tax Authority, but this process was canceled without the need to open a file because the vehicle is for personal use and not for trading."
He pointed out that "these recommendations are a first package, and there are other recommendations that will be issued later."[/size]
