Today, Saturday (June 1, 2024), a government official revealed that two centers of cancerous diseases had been detected in agricultural areas east of Diyala Governorate.
The director of Al-Salam district (30 km east of Baqubah), Hamid Al-Anbaki, said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm” that, “During the past two years, the spread of cancerous diseases has been monitored in the center of Al-Salam district and the villages of Al-Anbakiya, and the toll is rising day after day, as more than 40 cases have been recorded, and the numbers have exceeded This number will double if a comprehensive examination is not performed, because cancer is only discovered late and this is what is currently happening.”
He added, "Fingers of accusation are directed towards communications towers for mobile phones, especially after the water issue and other matters that could raise suspicion were examined, but the common point in the affected areas is the presence of towers, one of which was turned off to reassure the people and reduce psychological pressure and fear of the spread of the disease."
Al-Anbuki called for "the necessity of forming a higher committee to investigate the spread of cancerous diseases and for it to be impartial and provide a final report that answers the people's questions about the causes of cancerous diseases. It is noteworthy that people in several areas describe communications towers as a carrier of cancer after dozens of cases were recorded in the alleys near them in the areas of Baqubah and Al-Khalis.
