Raising improved gasoline prices does not target the poor

The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee clarified that the government’s decision to raise the prices of improved gasoline does not target the poor classes.
Committee member Nazem Al-Shibli told Al-Sabah: “The raising of improved gasoline prices came due to the rise in its foreign prices and its instability at a fixed price,” explaining that “the government imports it and subsidizes its prices.”
He pointed out that "consumers of improved gasoline are from the middle classes, not the poor, meaning that this matter does not target the poor and working class," stressing that "they do not justify the government to raise prices, and that if there are attempts to raise regular gasoline, the Oil Committee will stand with the citizens." She expresses her disagreement.”
Al-Shibli stated that “there are errors accumulated since the licensing rounds that have remained unaddressed,” adding that “although the licensing rounds increased production, there are still paths that have not been addressed, including the continued burning of associated gas.”
