Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, described the project to produce zero-grade flour, which is used in the production of bakeries for bread and samoon, as the birth of a new industrial sector, capable of meeting the country’s need with high-quality types. This came during his meeting with mill owners, stressing that it would match the imported one.
A statement from the Ministry of Commerce stated:
The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, confirmed that the start of production of the commercial zero flour project is the birth of a new industrial sector capable of meeting the country’s needs with high-quality products.
This came during the Minister’s meeting today, Monday, with the owners of commercial mills to announce the start of production of commercial zero-grain flour, which the Ministry has contracted to produce, which will be comparable to the imported one, and in the presence of the public departments in the Control Department and the grain trading and manufacturing companies.
The minister pointed out that the project adopted by the ministry, through the grain trading and grain manufacturing companies, is a promising project with private sector mills, which will have an impact on strengthening the economic aspect in meeting the needs of the local market and the consumer with a local product that matches the imported one, stressing that the wheat crop in Iraq has begun to keep pace with the countries of the region. Rather, it goes beyond meeting the actual need.
The Minister stressed the need to develop future steps through the combined efforts of the grain manufacturing and trading companies and the commercial control, planning and follow-up departments, and in coordination with the Ministry’s media office, to promote the production of zero-sum flour, which will be distinguished by its quality and specifications that compete with the importer and are compatible with the taste of the consumer.
For their part, the mill owners expressed their thanks for the Ministry’s support in fulfilling its obligations regarding this national project, which will serve national production, while emphasizing their readiness to produce it and benefit from the experience of grain processing in this aspect.
The General Manager of the Grain Trading Company, Haider Al-Karaawi, confirmed the arrival of the first ship loaded with 36,000 tons of Australian wheat for the benefit of commercial mills for the production of commercial zero-grain flour in Iraq, supplied by one of the companies nominated by the American Wheat Council. This was followed by the arrival of another ship loaded with 50,000 tons. A ton of Russian wheat acquired by a Turkish company.
He pointed to the great role and high coordination of the Operations Center, National Security, and Commercial Control in facilitating transportation operations and the arrival of quantities to commercial mills.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Trade, represented by the Grain Company, has approximately 1,800,000 tons for ration card purposes, in addition to the possibility of receiving 6 million tons, and according to the expectations of the Ministry of Agriculture, the country can be an exporter of wheat.
