    Shafaq News/ The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, called on Saturday to protect the internal situation in Iraq from regional developments that could cast a shadow on the country's security and political stability, warning at the same time of the activity of the banned Baath Party cells.
    Al-Maliki said in a televised speech today that Iraq is in this circle of challenges that the region is witnessing, developments and possibilities between two matters, the first: Iraq is not a marginal state but rather a political state in the region and must not be absent from the horizons of this conflict and its challenges or be changed by external will, and the second is that Iraq should move in a focused manner to protect the internal situation from the developments that are occurring and casting their shadows on the security situation and internal political stability.
    He stressed that "national security must be controlled, and at the same time Iraq contributes to the stability of the security situation in the region," adding that: "What definitely threatens our security is terrorism and those who stand behind these criminal groups, and secondly, the weakness of the political process and the attempt to penetrate it and detonate internal crises that target the structure of the state, its security and stability."
    Al-Maliki also urged "the government and political forces to assume their role and duties so that Iraq will be able to take a strong, mature national stance."
    He also said: We must prepare to face security challenges by paying attention to the armed forces in the interior and defense.
    Al-Maliki noted that "it is important to strengthen security operations to pursue terrorist hotbeds and sleeper cells to prevent their exploitation by those who want to disrupt the political process."
    The head of the State of Law Coalition continued, "We must pay careful and strong attention to the activities of the criminal Baath cells, which represent tools for the enemies of Iraq who move and cause destruction," calling on the government and security services to pursue the Baath cells, and for the Iraqi people to monitor their movements.
