Talk about resolving controversial laws.
The Legal Committee of the Iraqi Parliament revealed, today, Saturday, the reason for extending the life of the current legislative session, and the Council not entering its legislative recess.
Member of the committee, MP Mohammed Anouz, told the "Al-Jabal" platform, "The Iraqi Council of Representatives extended the legislative session for (30) days in order to legislate the important controversial laws that have been suspended for a long time, especially after they were included on the agenda for more than one session, but political differences prevented their passage."
Anouz explained that “the laws that are intended to be passed during the current legislative session are (the general amnesty law, the personal status law, and the law to return lands to their owners in Kirkuk and other governorates),” noting that “these laws have major and deep differences, and we believe that a period of one month is sufficient to resolve these differences, especially after the election of a new president, who may have the ability, through his political relations, to bring the viewpoints of the blocs and parties closer together.”
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee pointed out that "the suspended laws in the drawers of the House of Representatives in general exceed (120) laws, most of which are not controversial, but require readings and discussions and then passing, and there is an effort to pass most of them with the beginning of the new legislative session."
Last week, the Iraqi Parliament announced the extension of its current legislative term for 30 days, in order to consider controversial draft laws that have sparked controversy and created direct clashes between political blocs under the dome of parliament for sessions.
