The leader of the State for Law coalition, Omran Al-Karkoushi, confirmed that Al-Maliki’s coalition fears that the electoral cycle will end without choosing the Speaker of Parliament.
Al-Karkushi said, in a televised interview followed by Mawazine News, that “the eligibility for the position of Speaker of Parliament is not related to the Sunni component only, but rather is considered to complement the political system, stressing that the responsibility lies with the political system and must be resolved quickly.”
He added, "The House of Representatives must return to its work, to its legislation, and to monitoring the executive authority and state ministries, noting that the absence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and giving the management of the House to the First Deputy has formed a large political vacuum within the political system."
He pointed out that "the absence of the Speaker of the Parliament is not only borne by the Sunni bloc, but also by the entire political process, pointing out that the authority of the House of Representatives is considered suspended at the present time."
