Sunni political parties confirmed that the crisis of electing a new speaker of Parliament was approaching, a week after the candidate of the Taqaddam Party, Shaalan Al-Karim, announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy for the position, and withdrawing from the party headed by former Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
Political sources said in a statement reported by the Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed website, followed by Mawazine News, that there is a new round of discussions between the Sunni Arab forces to agree on a unified nomination for the position of Speaker of Parliament, stressing that there are preliminary understandings that have not reached the point of conclusion, “but everyone agrees on It is necessary to end the crisis, especially since the file of the general amnesty law, and other laws demanded by the residents of the provinces with a Sunni majority, are stalling in Parliament due to the crisis of the vacancy in its presidency.
Regarding whether the meeting held by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday in Baghdad with Sunni Arab political leaders, one of the sources confirmed that Turkey seeks to “unify Sunni Arab political forces without going into the details of the agreements between them.”
