During the past few days, several areas in the Kurdistan region experienced continuous power outages in some areas, reaching more than 12 hours a day in some of them, which caused popular and political resentment, while Kurdistan Regional Electricity commented on the matter, confirming that there was a defect in the electricity system and work was being done to fix it.
Today, Friday (April 26, 2024), former member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, Ahmed Dabban, criticized the poor services in the region’s governorates, including electricity.
Daban said, “We are still in the spring season and the weather is mild, and citizens do not use high-load electrical appliances, whether heating, splitters, or cooling devices.”
Dabban added, “Despite the moderate weather, the electricity is witnessing long-hour outages on a daily basis, exceeding 12 hours a day in the cities of the Kurdistan region, and private generators turn off the electricity at one o’clock after midnight,” adding, “This causes confusion for the citizen.” “.
He wondered, “If we are in the spring and this is the case, what will our reality be like in the summer with rising temperatures and increasing loads on the electrical current?”
For its part, the Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Regional Government responded, confirming that the process of rehabilitating power generation units had been successfully completed and the situation had returned to normal.
The ministry said in a statement that the repair process in the electricity generation units was completed successfully and the process is scheduled to be completed on Friday and the situation will return to normal.
The statement revealed that the process of repairing electricity generation units takes place annually, and the Ministry of Electricity wanted to do so this season before the summer season.
