    Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiyath Surji, confirmed today, Thursday (May 2, 2024), that Erbil is not a monopoly of the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union has a large constituency in the city as well as in Dohuk, stressing that he will not accept the division of the region into a two-administrative system.
Sorgi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that, “The National Union is not a local party whose presence is limited to Sulaymaniyah and Halabja. It is a party that represents a large popular base for the Kurds in all regions of Kurdistan and the regions where there are Kurds.”
He added, "The National Union made great sacrifices of blood for the sake of the constitutional entity of the Kurdistan region, and it will not accept the reduction or division of this entity at all."
He pointed out that "the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will not accept a return to the two-administrative system, and we support holding fair and transparent elections and whoever wins will manage the region in accordance with the democratic experience."
Yesterday, Wednesday, The New Arab Network revealed that “a source close to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the competitor to the Democratic Party, confirmed that Barzani intends to postpone the elections until the Federal Supreme Court’s deadline expires,” stressing that “most likely there will not be any elections after the court’s deadline expires.” .
The source also confirmed to the network that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, if the postponement of the elections is announced again, will decide “to withdraw from the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, and thus the region will be officially divided into two administrative regions,” according to his description.
