The commander of the Ansar al-Marjaiya Brigade, Hamid al-Yasiri, revealed the outcomes of the meeting he held with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani and an elite group of figures from Muthanna Governorate, against the backdrop of the call for demonstrations and sit-ins.
Al-Yasiri said, in a statement received by Mawazine News, that “there were meetings in the capital, Baghdad. The first meeting was with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and Samawah was represented by 20 academic and tribal figures from all districts and districts of the governorate.”
He added that the decisions were as follows:
First: Forming a committee from the Prime Minister’s Office to supervise all Samawah projects and not allowing the governor and members of the provincial council to dispose of funds.
Second: Representatives of the governorate’s demonstrations will supervise all the governorate’s projects as a support and monitoring body for the state, and by order issued by the Prime Minister.
Third: Forming a committee headed by the head of the Integrity Commission and the Financial Supervision Bureau to uncover corruption files and waste of public money in Samawah from 2003 to the present day, and calling on all citizens to submit corruption files to this committee through representatives of the demonstrations in their areas. The committee meets continuously with representatives of the public to expose corruption.
Fourth: A request was submitted to a group of the best members of the House of Representatives, led by the representative of Al-Muthanna Al-Sharif, Saad Awad Al-Tobi, to withdraw confidence from the governor and the provincial council due to violations they committed with contractor companies.
Fifth: An amount of 37 billion was collected from the Prime Minister and handed over to a committee of engineers from the Prime Minister’s Office to establish service projects provided by the Popular Demonstrations Committee, and the Governor and the Provincial Council are not allowed to interfere in them.
Sixth, closing all economic offices and informing the National Security and Intelligence Service of the presence of any office in Samawa.
According to Al-Yasiri, the Muthanna elite demanded: Al-Sudani stated that “these committees should include all deprived governorates and not allow governors and governorate councils to dispose of the funds.”
Al-Yasiri explained: “Since we represent the masses and the deprived people, we await your decision: whether we postpone the demonstrations and give an opportunity until after the Eid, or whether we continue to crush the heads of the rotten parties and the whales of corruption behind them.”
