The financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Mohammed Salih, said that the size of Iraq's external debt is less than 10 billion dollars, while its internal debt is 50 billion dollars.
Saleh stated that the remaining external debts due are less than $10 billion, and constitute only a very small part of the gross domestic product.
He added that the internal debts were incurred in two periods: the first was the financial and security crisis between 2015 and 2017 during the war against ISIS terrorism, and the second was the Covid-19 period, which witnessed a financial and health crisis, stressing that the internal debts amounted to about $50 billion.
He pointed out that the collection of internal and external debts due does not exceed $60 billion, and that Iraq's financial situation is good due to high oil revenue flows.
He explained that Iraq's financial flows are very good and high, and the financial situation is stable. As for cash liquidity, the Central Bank is the issuing bank and has the ability to provide cash liquidity through its policies in managing the issuance, stressing that cash liquidity is reassuring, the financial situation is good, the Iraqi economy is stable and there is no fear for it, and the country is progressing, growing and prospering.
