[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Parliamentary Labor and Civil Society Institutions Committee proposed a set of recommendations to update the proposed law on the organization of trade unions for workers, including amending some articles to comply with international agreements related to workers and union rights.
The committee reviewed, today, Tuesday, during a discussion session with the heads of Iraqi federations and unions to discuss the proposed law on the organization of trade unions for workers, its vision on the proposed law and ensuring the rights of trade union freedoms in Iraq, and the right to union organization in accordance with what Iraq ratified with the International Labor Organization.
The Committee also discussed the conditions and procedures related to the establishment of unions, their rights and duties, in addition to the freedom of workers and employers to form and join unions. It noted the sessions and meetings with experts and officials from the International Labor Organization (ILO), as well as with representatives of the State Council, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and labor unions, during which the legislative and legal framework for union organization was established and how to include the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention of 1948 No. 87, ratified in 2018, as well as Convention No. 98 of 1949, ratified by the Republic of Iraq in 1962.
Basic union rights were also discussed, such as the right to collective bargaining, freedom to form union committees, and protection from discrimination against unionists, as well as the challenges facing unions in light of economic and political changes in the field of labor relations and working conditions, such as the scope of union freedoms for those entitled to establish labor unions. / End 5
