Minister of Transport supervises the submersion of concrete pieces of the submerged tunnel in the Grand Faw Port

[rtl]Basra / NINA / Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi supervised, today, Wednesday, the process of submerging the concrete pieces of the submerged tunnel, one of the projects of the Grand Faw Port.
The Minister of Transport said during his field supervision of the submersion process with water: We thank the Prime Minister for his support for the Ministry of Transport, especially the Grand Faw Port and the development road, and thanks are extended to the Iraqi Parliament, especially the Parliamentary Transport Committee that supports the work of the ministry, and to the local government in Basra Governorate represented by its governor and members of the provincial council and all ministries and bodies supporting our work.
Al-Saadawi added that today we started the submersion process of the concrete pieces of (1226) submerged only out of (2444) with the entrances that will form the submerged tunnel with a length of 1200 meters, indicating that this project is one of the infrastructure projects for the Grand Faw Port, which will be linked to the development road passing through the Zubair Canal, and it is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The Minister continued, the project will save time, effort and cost, as the distance from the Grand Faw Port to the city of Basra will be only 62 km, noting that the reason the ministry chose the submerged tunnel is that it is safer than bridges, and that the soil of the Khor Al-Zubair Canal is suitable for building a tunnel instead of bridges.
In turn, the Director General of Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said that under the patronage of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and in the presence of the Minister of Transport, the water has begun to be opened in the submerged tunnel basin for the purpose of submerging the ten concrete blocks that have been completed and prepared for submersion inside the Zubair Navigational Canal, indicating that these blocks will undergo inspection and testing during the current two months, after which they will be floated piece by piece to be transported to the designated place, which is the slit that will be completed in conjunction with the readiness of these pieces for the floating process, and then we will work on forming the submerged part to connect the two banks of the Khor Al-Zubair Canal from Umm Qasr to Faw.
He added that after this process, we will start completing the road linking the port of Faw towards the city of Safwan via the submerged tunnel, then it enters via two bridges, the completion rate of the first of which has reached 98% and the second 96%.
Al-Fartousi confirmed that the docks project has been completed by 100% and work is underway on the receipt and delivery phase.
He pointed out that there is a gradation in the depths of the navigation channel from a depth of 19.8 to a depth of 12 meters, and its implementation will be completed before the specified period, stressing that there is an increase in the completion rate to more than 5% of what was planned. / End
