    Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, called on the federal government on Thursday to arm the Peshmerga forces as part of the country's military defense system, stressing that the Peshmerga defend Iraq, the region, and all of humanity.
    This came in his speech during the graduation ceremony of the 29th Peshmerga officers' course from the Military College in Zakho. The number of graduates reached 792 officers, including 50 women.
    President Nechirvan Barzani said in his speech that what is pleasing is that this course included the graduation of 50 female officers, including 13 officers from the Yazidi sect and one woman from the Kakai, expressing his hope to increase the number of women in the ranks of officers in the Peshmerga forces in the next course.
    He added that the Peshmerga forces broke the myth of ISIS and did not allow the extremist organization to approach Kurdistan, and the Peshmerga set an example of defense and self-sacrifice.
    The President of the Kurdistan Region expressed his thanks to the international coalition for its cooperation and provision of support and assistance to the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army in the war against ISIS, describing that support as “strategic and decisive.”
    The President of the Kurdistan Region also called on the international coalition to continue coordination and cooperation with the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army.
    He also stressed the need for continued coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces to establish security and stability in Iraq, especially in the disputed areas.
    The President of the Region also said that ISIS still poses a serious threat to the security and stability of Iraq and the region, and it is very important that cooperation and coordination between the Peshmerga and the army continue.
    Nechirvan Barzani continued, "We expect the federal government to do its duty towards the Peshmerga by arming them and providing them with the supplies they need, and do not be afraid of that, because the Peshmerga are defending Iraq, Kurdistan, and all of humanity."
    At the end of his speech, the President of the Region reiterated Kurdistan's position on the current situation in the region, saying: Kurdistan is in favor of stopping the war and resolving all crises and problems peacefully, and not involving Iraq in the current tension in the region.
