The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced, today, Friday (August 2, 2024), the activation of the “Empowerment and Jobs Platform” for people with disabilities through the electronic portal, Ur.
The head of the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs, Dhikra Abdul Rahim, said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "the empowerment and jobs platform is an electronic service dedicated to persons with disabilities, aiming to empower them (socially, economically, medically, educationally and professionally)."
Abdul Rahim added that "the platform includes appropriate vocational training for people with disabilities and special needs, developing their capabilities according to the needs of the labor market, and training families of people with disabilities and special needs on how to deal with them properly, care for them and look after them in a way that does not affect their dignity, in order to achieve their social integration."
She added that "the platform provides free seats in private schools for people with disabilities and special needs from low-income families, in addition to exempting people with disabilities and special needs from years of waiting to study abroad for all academic levels," stressing that "it provides a free grant for people with disabilities in Iraqi universities for those below the poverty line."
She explained that "health services are provided free of charge to people with disabilities and special needs, as well as securing the costs of treatment inside and outside Iraq, including performing operations or any other requirements," noting that "medical aids (prosthetic limbs, chairs, supports, etc.) are used."
