The Ministry of Transport revealed its intention to operate the Faw Port after completing the first phase of the project, while confirming that the completion rates of the five berths of the Grand Faw Port are proceeding according to plan.
The Director of Media and Relations at the Ministry, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with “Al-Zawraa”: “The Faw Port project is one of the important strategic projects related to the development method and is considered Iraq’s economic gateway to the future, and the first phase will be completed in 2025.” He confirmed that “the completion rates of the five berths of the Grand Faw Port are proceeding according to plan, and work is expected to be completed in October,” adding that “the completion of the first layer of the road linking the Faw Port and the immersed tunnel, with a length of 51 kilometers, will be announced in early August.” He added, “As for the immersed tunnel project, the inspection and analysis of the concrete blocks and the packaging and preparation processes have begun for the purpose of the inspection that will be conducted next September.” He pointed out that “work in the navigation canal is witnessing remarkable progress after the project’s excavator began work since the beginning of June and its work is still ongoing.” He added that “the rates of completion in the container yard have increased and the closure of the opening in the canal’s rock dam will soon be announced, thus completing the backfilling operations.” He explained that “the last quarter of next year will witness the gradual announcement of the completion of work on the four projects, while the fifth project, which is the five docks, will be announced this year in the tenth month.” He denied the existence of any obstacles facing the project, which is proceeding “according to the specified timetables and international specifications that are consistent with the nature of this important project. In 2025, the first phase will be completed, after which we will begin the second phase.” He stressed that “the ministry is determined to operate the Faw Port after completing the first phase through the old internal railway and land lines.”[/size]
