Shafaq News/ The Minister of the Region for Component Affairs, Aydin Marouf, announced on Tuesday that political parties within the components decided to run in the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region scheduled to be held on the twentieth of next December with independent lists, and to abandon the competition for the five quota seats.
Marouf said during a press conference held today in Erbil that there are only two months left until the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, indicating that part of the components will compete for the quota seats, and the other part will participate with independent lists outside the quota system.
Marouf renewed his call for the presence of representatives of the components in the Independent High Federal Election Commission and in its offices in the Kurdistan Region so that they can supervise the voting process, especially with regard to the quota seats.
The Judicial Election Commission decided to grant the components of the region five seats in the Kurdistan Parliament out of 100 if they compete in the elections, as follows: two seats in Erbil Governorate, two seats in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, and one seat in Dohuk Governorate.
At the beginning of last May, the Federal Supreme Court issued a jurisdictional order regarding the system for registering and approving candidate lists for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections in Iraq No. (7) of 2024.
Last June, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a regional decree setting October 20, 2024, as the date for holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
