    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Mazhar Muhammad Salih, the economic advisor to the Prime Minister , confirmed today, Saturday (September 7, 2024), that there is no salary crisis and these are just "malicious" rumors to raise anxiety among the people.
Saleh said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is no crisis in the salary file. These are just rumors that are launched from time to time to raise concerns among people, nothing more."
He added, "Salaries and social care are a priority in public expenditures, as they affect the living conditions of a very large segment of the Iraqi people. According to the family system, salaries, pensions and social care allocations, which constitute nearly 70 percent of operating expenses in the annual general budget, have priority in spending, as there is often a salary, retirement pension or social care allocations that affect the life of the Iraqi family in one way or another. Therefore, they are the state's essential guarantee for the Iraqi individual in providing the means of living."
He continued: "In addition to the support provided by the state, which constitutes a real indirect income for families in general and low-income families in particular, including what the government provides in terms of food basket items, in addition to subsidized fuel, free medicines for chronic diseases, and other semi-free medicines in public clinics, hospitals, etc."
He explained that "the support alone today constitutes an estimated 13 percent of Iraq's annual gross domestic product or nearly 25 percent of the total annual spending in the federal general budget, and this is what makes Iraq one of the countries called economic and social welfare systems."
Earlier today, Saturday, the Ministry of Finance announced that the monthly salaries of employees and workers in the public sector are being financed according to the cash liquidity available to it.
Finance Minister Taif Sami said in response to an inquiry regarding this matter, signed by her, which was viewed by Baghdad Today, that “there is no delay in disbursing salaries to all government departments, and according to the disbursement dates.”
She added, "Financing is done according to available cash liquidity."
Since September 4, 2024, global oil prices have witnessed a significant decline, with Brent crude falling below $74 per barrel.
For his part, economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi warned of a salary crisis affecting employees due to the drop in the price of a barrel of oil to $70, indicating that this drop has a negative impact on the national economy.
