    Baghdad - WAA - Mohammed Al-Talibi

Today, Sunday, the Prime Minister's Advisor for Industry and Private Sector Development, Hamoudi Al-Lami, counted the number of cement, steel and brick factories in Iraq and the size of their production capacity. While he indicated the imminent launch of a platform to facilitate obtaining a license to establish industrial projects, he indicated the reduction of customs duties on raw industrial materials to zero percent.
Al-Lami told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The government has developed a plan to meet the requests of all investors to establish residential units," indicating that "the Council of Ministers has taken a number of decisions to support the construction industries sector, including selling the lands on which industrial projects are built to project owners who have obtained a certificate of establishment, in addition to canceling oil cuts for a month to carry out maintenance and provide projects with fuel throughout the year, and reducing rental allowances for all industrial projects."
He added, "The Cabinet also decided that the General Directorate of Industrial Development and the National Data Center in the General Secretariat of the Cabinet would prepare a platform to facilitate obtaining a license to establish industrial projects."
He explained that "this platform will complete the transaction in just 15 days, after it used to take more than a year," stressing that "these decisions will contribute to supporting industrial projects."
He pointed out that "the decisions also included activating the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control in cooperation with the Organized Crime Department in the Ministry of Interior to monitor unlicensed factories," explaining that "customs duties on raw materials and production lines have been reduced to almost zero."
He pointed out that "the Prime Minister pays great attention to the issue of granting loans to industrial projects that are to be expanded, existing or under construction, and has formed a committee from the Advisory Board that includes in its membership a number of banks, the Prime Minister's Advisor for Industrial Affairs and the Prime Minister's Advisor for Banking Affairs," adding that "the committee is in the process of completing its recommendations and presenting them to the Council of Ministers to reconsider the guarantees required in granting loans and reduce those guarantees."
He added, "The Council of Ministers also took a decision to reduce electricity tariffs for industrial projects and for the Ministry of Electricity to isolate, within a year, the feeders designated to supply industrial areas to equip them during the morning hours with energy that lasts at least 8 hours a day."
Regarding cement factories, Al-Lami said: “Iraq has 29 factories for the production of cement, distributed between 18 government factories and 11 private factories, with a production capacity of 45.5 million tons within the design capacity, and its current actual capacity reaches 35 million tons to cover the need,” adding that “there are 14 cement factories under construction that will add about 15 million tons, bringing the total capacity to about 50 million tons.”
Regarding reinforcing steel, Al-Lami said, “Iraq has 15 steel and iron factories with a production capacity of reinforcing steel reaching 5.3 million tons annually,” noting that “there are 10 other factories under construction with a capacity of 3 million 180 thousand tons annually.”
Regarding brick and plastic pipe production plants, the Prime Minister’s advisor confirmed that “these plants produce about 13 billion bricks, and there are 49 plants under construction,” concluding that “Iraq also has 45 plants for the production of plastic pipes.”
