The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives acknowledged the existence of a defect in the work of the General Customs Authority, noting that it achieved revenues of less than two trillion dinars only, from 15 governorates.

Committee member Khalil Doski told Al-Jabal today, Sunday, that the committee recently met with the head of the Customs Authority, Hassan Al-Akeili, and saw that “the same talk has been repeated for three years now, that their work will develop and will be better than it is now.”

Dosky explained that Al-Akeili reviewed the authority’s revenues, which did not exceed two trillion dinars from 15 governorates, and “this is very strange that the amount of revenues achieved is this much.”

He added that the head of the authority's speech showed the delay in the issue of automating the customs system in the country, as only nine stations out of 50 points that should be implemented have been completed, "which indicates that there is resistance to it from some parties" and "there is no intention to complete it."

It is noteworthy that the head of the Iraqi General Customs Authority, Hassan Al-Akeili, stated earlier that the authority achieved more than (one trillion dinars) in revenues during the first half of the current year 2024, noting that "this amount will double by the end of the year."

He stated that "customs revenues amounted to one trillion and 33 billion dinars in 2023, an increase of 28% over the previous year," adding that "revenues reached one trillion and 145 billion dinars during the first half of 2024, and we will reach the designated amount of two trillion dinars at the end of the year."

The head of the Customs Authority explained that, “According to the budget law, the amounts collected from customs are measured annually, and if the amounts achieved by the Authority are measured, we are within the acceptable percentage.”
