Today, Thursday, the General Authority of Customs identified three main features that occurred in its work after 2003, the most important of which is the restoration of foreign relations with neighboring countries and the opening of all border crossings.
The head of the authority, Hassan Al-Ukaili, said, “The change that occurred in 2003 changed all aspects of life in Iraq, as the shape of the country, the state, and the political system changed, but with regard to the customs aspect, there are three basic points that distinguish customs work from what it was during the regime’s era.” Dictatorship.”
Al-Ugaili added, “The first advantage is the opening of all border crossings with neighboring countries after they were closed, due to the poor relations of the former regime that was running the helm of government at that time with Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait and Turkey, where the only open port was the Trebil port on the border.” Shared with Jordan, so; The options and imported goods were very limited, and therefore the state’s revenues generated from customs work were very limited.”
He pointed out, “The second point allowed the Iraqi traveler to carry 10,000 dollars, while during the time of the dictatorial regime the traveler carried only 50 dollars.”
He continued: “As for the third advantage, the customs duties on cars before 2003 were 300%, meaning that the importer of the car must pay the state a customs duty equivalent to three times its price, but after 2003, the value of the customs duty on the car became only 15%.” In addition to many advantages in customs work.”
