    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP Mudhar Al-Karwi set, today, Sunday (September 8, 2024), the date for the first Iraqi governorate to abandon imported electricity .
Al-Karwi told Baghdad Today, "The government's strategy to increase electricity production is going in the right direction, especially with the adoption of the combined cycle, which is a modern scope that helps increase the production of gas stations to higher levels without any increase in fuel, with efficiency in operation."
He added that "Al-Mansouriya gas station in Diyala was included in the combined cycle project and the work was assigned to the Chinese Shanghai Company for a period of 28 months to contribute to an additional increase in the station's production of up to more than 360 megawatts, bringing its total production to more than 1,000 megawatts for the benefit of the national grid."
He pointed out that "the increase achieved from the combined cycle is equivalent to the imported energy, and therefore if it is added to Diyala, it will ensure a high flow of electricity and it may be the first governorate to abandon imported energy in many years."
Yesterday, Saturday (September 7, 2024), Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani launched the executive work on three different projects for additional combined units to produce electricity, during a visit he made to the South Baghdad Gas Power Plant, as the executive work began on the project to add a combined unit to the station with a design capacity of up to 125  MW .
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that "Al-Sudani launched, via a television circuit, the executive works of the project to add two installed units to the Mansouriya gas station in Diyala Governorate, with a design capacity of 362  MW , as well as the project to add a installed unit to the Akkaz gas station in Anbar Governorate with a capacity of 125  MW  .
According to the statement, Al-Sudani appreciated "the efforts made to prepare for the launch of these important projects, and directed adherence to timetables and adoption of modern specifications," stressing that "combined cycles will provide electrical energy without the need for additional fuel, by relying on gases generated from electricity production in simple cycles, and will reduce gas imports, and will provide flexibility in meeting the needs of areas most in need and demand for electrical energy, within a production target of up to 4,000 megawatts in the combined cycles path."
The Prime Minister stressed that "the energy file represents the basis for any development plan, and the government has allocated financial allocations to develop all sectors of production, transportation and distribution, and has made significant strides in the field of exploiting associated gas, through contracts with Total or the fifth round and its annex, and the sixth round, in addition to the national effort, to reach self-sufficiency."
Al-Sudani pointed out, according to the statement, the trend towards adopting an economic model that achieves justice between the state and the investor, and regulates the consumption process, stressing the arrival of final understandings regarding the economic model that will be announced to the private sector and local and foreign companies, to implement (the 10,000 megawatt production project) of electricity, as the ministry presented its final vision regarding the transmission and distribution projects .
Al-Sudani pointed out the "trend towards renewable and environmentally friendly energy projects, as a specialized team is working to convert government headquarters to rely on solar energy, and solid international companies have submitted offers to implement solar energy projects at the governorate level, and within an economic model that will be adopted .
