The Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court, Jassim Mohammed Abboud, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Iraq has taken very big steps in the field of democratic construction and building constitutional institutions in order to build a democratic parliamentary system that guarantees Iraq's unity in accordance with the constitution.
A statement issued by the court received by (Mawazine News) stated that "the Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, in the presence of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Dilanyan."
The Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court expressed "the depth of historical relations between the Iraqi and Armenian peoples and Iraq's keenness to strengthen and enhance those relations in various aspects."
He added that "Iraq has taken very big steps in the field of democratic construction and building constitutional institutions in order to build a democratic parliamentary system that guarantees Iraq's unity in accordance with the constitution."
The Chief Justice explained that "excommunication and terrorism did not deter the Iraqi people from moving forward to build a system of the state of law based on the rule of law and ensuring that the people enjoy all constitutional rights, including the right to vote, elect and run for office."
He continued, "Despite all the challenges, Iraq has been able to build constitutional institutions through which a democratic system can be built in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq."
He pointed out that "the Iraqi people have offered thousands of martyrs on behalf of the world in their war against the terrorist organization ISIS," indicating that "Iraq stands with all the peoples of the world who aspire to achieve their human rights, especially the Palestinian people."
In turn, Simonyan stressed "the importance of such meetings in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries," affirming Armenia's commitment to supporting and strengthening friendly ties with Iraq.
