The Ministry of Commerce denied the rumors circulating on social media calling on citizens to store food supplies in anticipation of emergency circumstances.
This was confirmed by the official spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Mohammed Hanoun, who added that the ministry denies what was circulated on some social media sites regarding the ministry’s call for citizens to store food supplies.
The statement of the official spokesman for trade reassured Iraqis of the provision of a large and good stock of food basket items after the ministry worked seriously to provide this stock in cooperation with the Iraqi private sector, which contributed to providing the stock through contracts according to a strategic vision and reading of the international scene, in addition to the success of the marketing season for the wheat crop, which is the largest in the country’s history.
The ministry called on citizens to receive a new batch of food basket items in all regions of Iraq. It stressed its call to citizens not to deal with rumors or what is being circulated on some social media sites and called on the media to be accurate and cautious regarding food security in Iraq and to obtain information from its primary sources.
