    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political analyst Mujasha' Al-Tamimi confirmed, today, Thursday (October 17, 2024), that the recent developments in the region prompted some political forces to expedite the resolution of the issue of the presidency of the House of Representatives.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The regional pressure on Iraq, especially the bombing of Beirut, may be a motive for the political forces to overcome differences on the subject of internal crises, including the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives, but until now we have not heard the opinion of the Sunni forces that are responsible for the issue."
He explained that "the solution to the crisis is in the hands of the Coordination Framework, which has the majority, and if it wants to resolve it, it is capable of doing so. In my opinion, the framework now has more important priorities than the position of Parliament Speaker, so expectations indicate that this issue will be resolved, especially with the existence of implicit agreements between the Sunni forces in favor of the former Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, who has a Sunni majority."
Al-Tamimi explained that "keeping Al-Mandlawi was a desire of the Coordination Framework, but the geopolitical changes in the region have caused major changes and concern among the Shiite component, which now wants to restore the political house within the State Administration Coalition and satisfy the Sunni component, and perhaps even coordinate with the Kurdish house in order to come out with a comprehensive national stance against the Israeli threats."
On November 14, 2023, the Federal Supreme Court, the highest judicial authority in Iraq, decided to terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, following a lawsuit filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (al-Dulaimi’s) resignation from the House of Representatives. As a result, the Federal Court ruled to terminate their membership (al-Halbousi and al-Dulaimi).
On November 21, 2023, the Iraqi Parliament decided to officially terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi. Since then, the Parliament has held several sessions to elect a new Speaker of the Parliament, but disagreements between Sunni political forces have prevented this.
